Scrapbooks are the modern equivalent of quilts -- a homey little craft that enables us to record our memories in a permanent visual format, often created while chatting with friends. One key feature of scrapbooks is that they preserve information as well as images, in the form of titles, dates, and journaling. Another is that they put delicate items such as photos and memorabilia in a safe place using archival materials that will last for a long time. Here you'll learn to create a scrapbook.

This craft project contains a large amount of material. For easier viewing online, it is divided into topical sections which are posted as individual lessons. You may work through these in order or skip to whatever seems most relevant to you.

This piece began as the article "Scrapbook of Shadows" published in PanGaia #45 "Magical Arts & Crafts" Nov. 2006-Jan. 2007, cowritten by Elizabeth Barrette with Michelle Benedicta. Later in 2007 it was expanded into a class, "Rootskeeping 101: Scrapbooking for Wizards," complete with homework and final exam. It has been trimmed back somewhat from the class version, for reprint online.
